I will be frank, I always liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple of clicks and a customer can put an order with a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A huge one.
That is one the couple freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this post, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and I decided to give up on the stage entirely.
(I have been advising her building up a respectable account, and the way to go beyond and above with every previous order. Everything stated is her doing, I am only an audience )
In this case, she had only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... or so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (which is usually a part of the more expensive bundle ).
The client"loved" one of the concepts and so we moved to send her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description. Shortly after, things got a little bizarre.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to choose the emblem, something that is clearly not available as a member of her gig.
Against my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the extra job, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the customer responded with much more demands and a few adjustments to the social media files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the customer went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did eventually go ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review 2018: As A Buyer - InfoWizard kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support question, the client paid an extra $10 for the social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment has been accompanied by yet another danger.
At this point, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could punch them in the face.
However, at the time, I still had hope that Fiverr support would step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.
After the response came back from Fiverr support, they told that they could I Went To Fiverr For a $5 Logo. Here's What Happened... moneybites not force the purchaser to take the purchase.
Okay, that is reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a listing for the purchaser to reveal the work was completed in accordance to the gig requirements.
Honestly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email that the customer was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Naturally, it was not really about the job, it was all about seeking protection from an abusive customer who was blatantly pushing their luck.
Their answer didn't provide either of us some assurance that Fiverr actually knew that, and even at this point we felt like they didn't wish to get involved.
At precisely the identical time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that was obviously and blatantly left to intimidate her to providing work outside of the agreed conditions .)
A fair request by anyones standards, appropriate?
Instead of acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the one breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the customer to modify their feedback, she was no longer eligible for any assistance from Fiverr support.
You can imagine how we felt studying this.
Everything that the buyer had done and said Go Here prior to her final message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an account she had worked so hard to accumulate.
And think, there are tons of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
Well, as all this was occurring, I did some research to find out if any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Very quickly, I discovered a range of nearly equal cases on the Fiverr forum dated years ago. (that's correct, decades.)
This is obviously something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it's that clients are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a project, or how hard you worked on itor perhaps how long you handled communication in a dispute, if it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it's a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one tiny thing that you"did no way" according to their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it's clear to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains prepared to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you are reading this, then I implore you to seriously reevaluate your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can set all that time and effort in to building up an account and over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, only to be taken down from the very people you rely on to protect you.
Look, I don't need to leave Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to safeguard freelancers from this kind of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do anything I could to stop others from falling prey to a one-sided support team.
The next you actually do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight , I will be happy to update this article.
